Saturdays are all Right!

We made it to the quilt show today. For a local show, it was well
organized and the quilts on display were absolutely gorgeous. I spent
most of my time looking at them and little time taking pictures.
Oh well, good intentions.

I did find some cute fat quarters. I especially like the reproduction
prints that they are coming out with now. So 30's and 40's...not that
I remember those times, cause I wasn't born yet! But you know what
I mean. One of these days before I'm crippled with arthritis or blind as
a bat I am gonna make a quilt. They had an event that they called a
"bed turning" which was really a showing of people's antique quilts.
There was one documented that was cut in the 1860's and pieced in the
1930's and by the time it was quilted it was in the 1950's...took almost
100 years to get it finished. So there you go...I might can cut it out and
if I never get it finished maybe one of my descendants will finish the
project for me. You never know......
So anyway after I came home and dropped my Aunt off I decided to go
to the grocery store. As I was leaving I saw these two women getting
ready to leave the store with these balloons filled with helium.
There were about 25 in each bundle and they had a big plastic bag
over the top of them. I got to my car first and I sat and watched the
ladies trying to get the balloons in the car. It wouldn't have been so bad,
but a front had gone through and the wind was blowing about 15 to 20
miles an hour. I watched as the wind whipped those balloons into
a frenzy, but I had the presence of mind to snap a couple pictures:

I bet they were glad to get those home. Good luck ladies....I hope
you weren't planning on having an outdoor party, cause I don't think
these will be around long if you do!

Weekend Quilt Show

Quilt show this weekend...wahoo! It's the 2008 Berrien Town and
Country Quilt Show at Lake MI College Mendel Center. Over 250
quilts and a Trunk Show by Laurie Simpson. The quilt above is for a
raffle and there are vendors and a Boutique that the members will
sell their quilts and things. Sounds like fun to me, my Aunts and I
are going for sure.

LogCabin Quilter's Show

This was a busy weekend for me. Celebrated my
mom's birthday and then celebrated mine. Its
taken me two days to get over it too! Wah! I don't
recover as fast as I used too. Could it have been
the bowling that I hadn't done in 25 years...or the
beer? 53 ain't like 23 that's for sure....:0(
Best part of the weekend was going to the Quilt
Show in Kalamazoo. The Log Cabin Quilters
sponsored it. Lots of nice quilts to look at.

It would have been nicer if they had run
the air conditioning. It really sucks all the
joy of looking at stuff if your sweating like
you've been sitting in a sauna. Sheesh! Did
manage to shop for some fabrics. Got some
really wild Halloween prints, I want to do a
table runner. After I bought the fabric I
thought, "Wait I need a pattern!". But I
rethought and figured I could do one on
my own. I have much more confidence about
my artitst ability lately. I thank the BJP group
for that.

One of my favorite things to look at are the Art dolls.
I should be looking for a doll show to go to . Than I
could really go crazy. Add doll making to the list of
things I want to do.

Heirloom Quilt

I spent most of this weekend gathering stuff for our
Fall Rummage at church. And boy howdy, am I glad
to be done with that! As I was struggling to get out of
the closet, I found some blankets that for lack of a
better place to keep them, were thrown on the floor.
As I was going through them I found Geary's Grandma's
quilt (shame on us) in the pile too. Grandma Adams was
never able to finish it, so Geary's sister put a backing on
it and tied it with pieces of yarn. I know this has to be
at least 55 years old and could be even older. It has the
most beautiful fabrics and it is hand sewn.
I'm going to gather as much of the history of the
quilt as I can. So I can date it. My intentions
are to have it quilted the right way if possible, but
I think it needs to be cleaned. There are some
stains and small openings where the threads
have come undone. I took the yarn ties out, but it
left gaping holes where the yarn spread the threads.
My question to any of the quilters out there is this...
Should I just leave it as it is and not remove the back?
Is it hard to find a professional to consult with...there's
a quilting show in Kalamazoo next weekend.
How should I store it? Can anyone help me? It's so
beautiful and I could kick myself for not taking better
care of it sooner. But what do I know about quilting,
I'm a beader!!!
