We got the Blues

This is my girl Bailey. She looks exactly like I feel, sad,
scruffy and a little out of whack. Seriously, she has been having
a bit of trouble lately...she has a bad back and last week we
played too rough outside and she hurt herself again.
So she 's on muscle relaxers and as of today she is feeling
much better. She's growling and barking at things outside,
which is a very good sign. Since that picture she's had a
grooming too, so she looks happier. Dogs are so like people,
they have feelings too. She might like to smell bad things,
but she's not very happy smelling like a bad thing!
This last couple of weeks have been weighing on me more
than I just a little a bit. I have an Aunt, Marie, who is facing
surgery this week. She has a type of skin cancer (squamous)
that has gone into her bone on her chin. She's having the
surgery on Wednesday, a twelve hour ordeal, where they
will remove a portion of her jaw and replace it with bone
from her leg. They are doing reconstructive work at
the same time. It's a very life changing surgery. She will have
weeks of breathing through a tracheal tube and being fed
through a feeding tube. All that on top of chemotherapy.
At least she's going to Ann Arbor for treatment, that's the
best hospital in the state. They took great care of my Dad
when he had cancer. Please keep Marie in your prayers,
she's trying hard to be strong, but she's worried.
But how can you not be?

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt, I know of so many people right now who are going through cancer issues. How scary for her. I will keep her in my thoughts. Bailey's picture sums it all up...

  3. I hope all goes well for your Aunt - I know how scary surgery can be...and cancer on top of that...Hopefully, they will be able to take care of it all!

I love the picture of your Bailey....Funny thing, cause I have a Mini Schnauzer named Bailey, too :o) She's 8, but you wouldn't know it to watch her run around...I know what you mean about their feelings...Our Bailey needs a haircut, and she is always SO prissy afterwards :o)

  4. Thanks girls for you good wishes for my Aunt. I know she will be okay, she's a strong lady.

Beth-how did you get from Kazoo to
Portland? I've been there (OR). Its a beautiful state.

Mellisa-really the word cancer is one I do not like saying. But even if they don't have total cures for cancers, they certainly have made great strides in treatments. Mostly I think it comes down to heeding the warning signs.

Katie-update on Bailey: She felt much better by this afternoon, almost herself. She's still a little clingy, but I don't care. Say, Bailey is 8 yrs old too! She was born in Sept. ;^)

  5. Just remeber the name of your icon, "Ode to Joy", spring will come!! You and your aunt are in my prayers.

I went through the cancer scare this summer so totally understand not wanting to say the word. Good care and physicians are so important and she is going to be in the right place.

  7. Thanks for the reminder Barb and for keeping my Aunt in your prayers. I'm hoping you are ok after your scare?
When are the babies coming? I still want to get out and see them as newborns. That's a sure sign of spring.

  11. Aunt Marie is in my prayers and thoughts daily.

I hope Bailey is feeling better. She sure won't want to go out and play in the snow and cold you are getting now.

God's peace be with Aunt Marie and our family tonight, tomorrow and always.
